Seems like you got a firewire cable instead of a usb cable. So, most likely the scanner was used on a mac. It seems there was a firewire card included in the package, so if you have a free pci slot, you can put in there and connect the scanner to that plug. Install the drivers and it should work. If he didn't give you the firewire card that was included, you can buy one for cheap anywhere else and put it in a free pci slot. Billy1 wrote: Thanks again everyone! You are correct. The scanner has a firewire cable.
Nikon has cancelled the support for its own scanner software, versions for the actual operating systems aren't existing. SilverFast is an alternative and an enhancement, that introduces a lot of new and valuable features for Nikon scanners.
Problem is though I am on a laptop and from the looks of the manual I can't install a firewire card. What's so frustrating is I went over to see him earlier and he was able to download the correct driver on his Mac (laptop) -connect the scanner via firewire cable and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. My laptop has a IEEE 1934 slot (which from all accounts seems to be fuctional) so we tried to connect scanner with firewire cable that fit into the slot on my laptop but my computer just wouldn't 'read' that I had the scanner connected. May try another cable tomorrow and if that doesn't work might have to dust off old PC -add a pci card-scan then transfer pics to my laptop.
