Office 2016 for Mac: Installation was an unexpected hassle. When customers dread installing your software, you've got some serious problems. David Gewirtz has some complaints. To enable localized strings for the heading and paragraph, you place the strings in a separate resource file. The resource file creates a JavaScript object that contains a separate JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) object for each set of localized strings. Currently, it produces a list of 282 missing strings for the vanilla code at GitHub. All these strings have to be added to Transifex. Due to the length, I'm not posting them here -- you can run the script on your local site with the current code and localization files from transifex to get the list of missing strings. From this thread in Apple Exchange, the folder's location has changed for Office for Mac 2016. I recently bought a new computer (MacBook Pro) after my G4ibook crashed on me while traveling on the job. I needed to buy the Macbook anyways for FC Studio but I would still like to fix my old G4, mainly because I'd like to uninstall some expensive programs to install them again on my new MacBook Pro. The problem with the G4 ibook is strange and I haven't received much help yet. It happened during a software update.

When I went to open Safari, it would crash and I would get the text 'localized string cannot be found'. The strange thing was, that after that, each program started crashing, one by one. At first it was localized string cannot be found, but now it is 'Application Launch Failure - The application 'Screenwriter' could not be launched because of a shared library error:/CFMPriv_CarbonCore>' It says this for basically all of my Software. The other problem is that the DVD/CD drive broke down right after the warranty ran out, so I can only install via HD, not by disk. What I'd like to do is simply get some of the programs off of the G4 and some files (like my itunes library!) and then I wouldn't mind resetting the computer and just giving it to my girl or little brother.

Any help I can get on how to do this would be greatly appreciated!!!! Looks like something crashed or was interrupted in those updates.

Download the combo update for your Mac's OS and architecture and re-install it in target mode. That should fix the missing files. It sounds like those missing strings are not in the applications themselves but somewhere in core services or frameworks as they keep occurring everywhere. You could always use target disk mode (boot this mac with T letter down at startup, attach a firewire cable to the new mac and you should be able to get the hard drive moutned as external hard drive on the desktop of your new mac). After getting these programs - and for programs like final cut you will need also to get the installers and not jsut copy the files over - run the software update to miss the possible missing pieces from them. When I started writing this story, I thought it was going to be a rant. Instead it's more testimony to unnecessary hassle. Obviously, we're talking about Microsoft. Most of you know that a few years ago. Although I had Office 2013 licenses as an educator through school, I moved to Office 365 to gain access to Office 365-hosted Exchange. Then, just about a year ago,, and haven't looked back. Although I cancelled my Office 365 Midsize Business plan, I still have my Office 2013 license for my PCs and my Office 2011 license for my Macs.

Yep, there it is. That's the start of this story. I get downloadable Office from the school where I teach, but they only have Office 2011 for Mac. As you probably know,, and it's much more in line with the PC version of Office 2013 we're all used to. Office 2011 for Mac is so bad that I have a Parallels install of Windows on most of my Macs, just to run Office 2013 in a Windows virtual machine. Yesterday afternoon, I caved.

I do a tremendous amount of work in Word and PowerPoint, and I just wanted them to run natively on my Macs. I wanted to use Office 2016 and stop all the weirdness that I have to go through when running a Windows instance to edit a Word file.

Unfortunately, while the university has an Office 2011 for Mac license, they haven't yet updated to Office 2016 for Mac, which will probably be sometime this fall. Microsoft wireless gaming receiver for windows to use your wireless controller in mac os x. So, at only $89 for the year (with a ten buck academic discount), I bought my own license. You can see my receipt right there, in the screenshot below. Are you starting to feel the dread?

After a year or so away from doing Microsoft installs, I'd forgotten just how much of a DMV-like experience dealing with Microsoft products can be. Let the runaround begin.
