I'm glad that we have organizations like FSF that stay true to their guns and remain pure. I think we need that. Some might call this authoritarian, or Richard Stallman forcing his agenda upon us. But this simply isn't true. Let's not forget that Richard and the FSF also give us the freedom to opt-out of his policies, because the software is open source. As programmers, we can put the emoji back if we want. So I feel like Richard has every right to do what he feels is best, because we have the freedom to disagree.
I'm not sure this qualifies as a double standard. Let's say there's this guy, Bob. Bob doesn't really care about politics and capital-F Freedom in his software. He likes Linux and open source stuff because it lets him make his computer do exactly what he wants it to do. To Bob, Apple isn't 'hostile' to free software.
Sure RMS will say they're hostile to Free Software, but Bob doesn't care about philosophy. To Bob, Free Software is free software is open source software, and to Bob, Apple makes things like Webkit and CLang/LLVM that are cool and that he can use to make his computer and his software better. RMS on the other hand makes his computer worse in the name of fighting a bigger battle that Bob doesn't give a crap about. Bob might be wrong to criticize RMS and the FSF while praising Apple, but he's not hypocritical. There's no double standard.
There's one standard -- 'makes cool stuff and gives away the source'. Despite my other post illustrating my concern, I completely understand the logic. This seems like a petty reaction, but like the Sith, the FSF deals with absolutes. It's either free, or it's not.

A couple minor features add up and before you know it, GNU Emacs feels more at home on a proprietary OS than it does on any free platform.
